What Are The Benefits of Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy has been used throughout time, all over the world, for its many benefits. More often than not people acknowledge it for its ability to relieve stress and tension but did you know that it does so much more? Listed below are a few of the benefits from receiving regular massages.
- Increased circulation - Flushing strokes allow the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients to vital organs
- Increased metabolism
- Aids in having quality sleep (and not just while you're on the table!)
- Increased flexibility and range of motion.
- Improved Immune system - Stimulates the flow of lymphatic fluid, the body's natural defense system against toxic invaders. For example, in breast cancer patients, massage has been shown to increase the cells that fight cancer.
- Decreases anxiety and depression
- Relieves headaches and migraines
- Reduces spasms and cramping
- Assists with shorter labor for expectant mothers
- Reduces Hypertension
- Provides much needed relaxation
- Improves poor posture
- Relieves pain caused by Arthritis, Tendonitis, and Fibromyalgia
- Relieves carpal tunnel syndrome
And that's just to name a few! Taking time for yourself is so very important. Do not underestimate the importance of you and how well you function when you feel your best.
Types of Massage Therapy Offered
Most clients receive a customized massage that includes a combination of techniques allowing them to both relax and work on problem areas. Aromatherapy can be added to any massage to enhance health and relaxation benefits. Only 100% pure essential oils are used in our clinic.
Swedish - Swedish Massage is a very basic, relaxing massage. Pressures vary from very light to a heavier medium yet not deep pressure. Very good for people who have never received massage therapy before.
60 min - $60
90 min - $90
Deep Tissue - Deep Tissue utilizes a pressure that accesses the deepest layers of your muscle. This technique involves scraping muscle fibers and breaking down tension that lays beneath the top layers of muscle. Please keep in mind that deep tissue is NOT a massage that is just a heavy pressure. The therapist will only go as deep as you are. Any pressure deeper than that has the potential to damage and bruise your muscle. If you have never had a massage before or have not received massage therapy in six months or longer, deep tissue may not be the best choice for you at the moment. Trigger Point therapy or Swedish may be more appropriate. If you are pregnant you should not receive Deep Tissue massage.
60 min - $65
90 min - $95
Trigger Point - Trigger point therapy is a form of deep tissue but does not scrape muscle fibers the way deep tissue does. Trigger Point targets knots and adhesions by applying pressure to the center of the knot, forcing it to let go, followed by stokes that provide increased circulation to flush released toxins out and away of the affected area allowing the body to get rid of it.
60 min - $65
90 min - $95
Sports Therapy - Sports massage is wonderful if you are someone who leads an active lifestyle. This kind of massage is a combination of a somewhat heavy pressure and stretching techniques designed to elongate shortened muscles and increase circulation, allowing the blood to bring essential nutrients to the muscles. Be sure to drink extra water before and after to ensure the best results possible
60 min - $70
90 min - $105
Prenatal Massage - Prenatal massage provides relaxation to expectant mothers and can aid in shortening labor duration (Seriously!). It is a light to medium pressure massage designed to reduce swelling in appendages and reduce pain in the usual problem areas. Instead of laying on your stomach, massage on the back will be done in a side lying position. Certain areas on pregnant women should be avoided such as around the ankles and under the curve of the gastrocnemius (calf muscle) because these spots can induce labor. Aromatherapy can be used in a prenatal massage, however, certain oils are not appropriate. Please ask the therapist about suggestions.
60 min - $60
90 min - $90
Hot Stone - Hot stone therapy is a favorite among many clients. The stones are made of basalt (a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat) immersed in water and heated in an electric heating
device until they are within a certain temperature range. The massage is done by massaging with the stones instead of only using the hands like other massage techniques. The stones
may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand,
or between the toes. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system. This technique is extremely beneficial for people who need deeper work but cannot take the pressure of a deep tissue massage. Also feels wonderful during those cold winter months.
75 minutes - $105
